Hi, I’m IONA.
I opened Ambika Healing in 2018 whilst living in the Netherlands as a practice dedicated to holding space for authentic healing through the use of Ayurvedic massage practices and Thai massage techniques. Upon arriving in the US, I began studying therapeutic massage at the Northwest Academy of the Healing Arts in Seattle. Today, my practice integrates techniques from both my Eastern and Western training, with you always at its centre.
I deeply believe in the power of healing touch and consider it an honour to work in this field; facilitating healing in both the physical and emotional body. In order to return the body to a state of ease and alignment, I come to the body humbly and allow its wisdom to guide my work facilitating a release of tension through the use of techniques such as myofascial release, muscle energy techniques, lymphatic drainage, ayurvedic abhyanga, ayurvedic marma manipulation, and Thai massage.
the story behind my name
Ambika was the name given to me by an elder in the foothills of the Nepali Himalayas. At the time, I did not know the meaning of the name but as I began to deepen my dedication to studying healing arts the name began to align with my purpose.
Ambika is another name used for the Hindu goddesses, Durga and Parvati. She embodies love, divine strength, devotion, power, and creation. She connects all beings and is considered a primitive source of energy. Ambika is the strength of the feminine to protect, create new life, spiritually release, and heal. These aspects of Ambika’s divine energy are key to my philosophy as a massage therapist.
I am passionate about supporting clients in finding relief from pain, ease in movement, a deepening connection to their body and an understanding of the uniqueness of their needs.
Current focus
This year my studies include intraoral training, to support realigning your palet and jaw, myofascial balancing, lymphatic drainage, and visceral mobilizations.
future dreams
Next year I hope to attend MABT training with the incredible Cynthia Price to deepen my understanding of the trauma stored in your body, and craniosacral therapy with the amazing Lauren Christman.
